This dune landscape was painted in 1992 by Hans Sturris. The original watercolour on paper has a size of 56×37 cm.

The Slufter – a unique part of the Netherlands.
De Slufter is a rare open tidal area that is directly connected to the North Sea. This special nature reserve was created after attempts to turn it into an agricultural polder failed. Instead, nature was given free rein, and today De Slufter is a paradise for nature lovers, with a dynamic landscape of creeks and salt-tolerant plants such as samphire, sea lavender and sea wormwood. In the summer, the area turns a beautiful purple due to the flowering sea lavender.

In addition to the special flora, De Slufter is also an important bird breeding and resting area. Here you can spot birds such as eider ducks, avocets and shelducks, while the Sluftergeul is home to marine animals such as crabs, shrimps and flatfish.
